It's cold outside -- really cold for our city. And the nights are even colder. For people experiencing homelessness, these nights are dangerous. When temperatures drop, a place to stay and warm gear, such as blankets, coats, gloves and hats, are needed more than ever. Below is a list of nonprofit organizations working to meet the emergency needs of those who face these freezing temperatures.

Action Ministries – meets basic needs, including housing and hunger relief

Atlanta Mission – shelters men, women and children

Decatur Cooperative Ministry – provides shelter for homeless individuals in DeKalb county

Covenant House – offers shelter to youth experiencing homelessness

Gateway Center – begins a continuum of care to move people out of homelessness

HOPE Atlanta – provides emergency shelter

Mercy Care – provides health and medical care for homeless individuals

Our House – cares for families and mothers with newborns

Partners for HOME – provides coordination to organizations serving people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta

Solomon’s Temple – supports homeless women and children

Please note that while the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta is familiar with these organizations, they have not each been formally vetted. This list focuses on the City of Atlanta – for organizations outside the city in our 23-county region, please contact your philanthropic officer.
